JOIN A SPORT AT GRIZZELL!

Read both arguments and pick a side!

Should sixth graders be allowed on sports teams or not?

Yes argument:

Do you think 6th graders should be allowed to play school sports? Why? 6th graders can help the school in many ways. First, 6th graders can be helpful because they can be good at sports and bring wins for teams. Since 6th graders are new to the school they get to meet new people on the team! Also they would be able to be more a part of the school and have school spirit. They can be proud to go to Grizzell! This also helps prepare them for the next year of sports. They already know how things work at the school and how the coaches are. If you have to tryout for a sport then the 6th graders that made the team the year before have already shown the coaches how good they can be which increases their chance of making the team! Being on a school sport team is a way for kids to be more competitive and want to win. That can be a good thing. This also increases good sportsmanship because they are used to winning or losing for school sports. Lastly, this is a great way for all students to feel involved and more a part of the school! Now think again. Why shouldn't 6th graders be able to be on school sports teams?

No argument:

6th graders should not be allowed to play a school sport. This is because there is more needed if the 6th graders were to be able to join a school sport. We would need more coaches and more space and gym availability because of the larger amount of kids there would be, which is another reason 6th graders shouldn’t be allowed to join school sports. Another reason that 6th graders should not be allowed to join school sports is it would cost more for the parents and the school by having to buy more uniforms and pay for more coaches, etc. Also if 6th graders were to join school sports it would be less of a privilege in 7th grade. It can also be harder for 6th graders due to the fact that it gets a lot more competitive in middle school sports. More kids would have hurt feelings because there would need to be more cuts. Since the 6th graders are new they really won’t know a lot of people from other grades so, it might be awkward for them and/or a little scary.  In conclusion, 6th graders should not be allowed to join school sports.

The Jerome football Friday games are coming up big! On Friday the 5th, Jerome won against the Pickerington Panthers. Winning their very first game, Jerome was heading on a roller coaster going up. What really seemed to get the game going was the huge student section that was filled with high schoolers, from freshman to seniors. Even Grizzell students were crowding in to cheer on their soon to be high school football team. The cheering seemed to bring out the best from the Jerome football team. Unfortunate to say, a player from the Panthers broke his shin when he was going into a tackle. He had to be transported to the hospital immediately, causing a delay in the late night game. The NBC4 news network even created a story on the player who got crushed in the tackle from the other team. But the injury didn’t hurt our chances on winning the game and taking home their very first win of the season. The Jerome Celtics second game was not as lucky as the first game. We lost against the Olentangy Liberty Patriots, 35-12. Though Jerome’s team was not doing so well, many high school students still came to cheer on their favorite team. The student section was near crowded and nearly everyone was going “patriotic” and wearing red, white, and blue. Some Grizzell students also decided to come once again to be part of the team. Come see the home Jerome football game against Hilliard Bradley! Make sure to wear your neon shoes and shirts to help raise up the tempo for the game!

The Grizzell athletics season has already started and we are already playing against other schools. The Grizzell girls tennis team won against Olentangy Hyatts and Liberty combined on September 9th! As the morning announcements say, “Grizzell won every court in solid fashion!” The Grizzell tennis team also won against Hilliard Heritage, 58-2! “The tennis team continues to feed crow to their opponent!” states the morning announcements. Great job to them for playing tough to their opponents. You can come watch their home games against Olentangy and Pickerington on the 16th and the 18th.

The Grizzell Cross Country team are boosting up their abilities in their races, as many of the runners are getting new personal records. The meet against Hilliard Weaver and the Catholic Schools ended up being a lost for our team. Though their score was better than ours, the Celts are improving a lot and are still getting better. Cheer on our non-stop runners as they take on Sells Middle School here on our own turf on September 16th. They are going to need you guys! Also, come out to watch their other home meet against Hilliard memorial on September 23rd.

The Grizzell volleyball team is smashing their opponents! For seventh grade, their team had a good game against Hilliard Memorial on September 8th and won! Great job to them! For the eighth grade team, they also won against Hilliard Memorial in two straight games! Both grades are defeating their opponents won by one and are doing well at it too. Come and watch them play at UA Jones here at Grizzell on September 15th. Bring on the heat and support your teams!

The Grizzell football team keeps on improving throughout their games, both the seventh and eighth grade teams. Come on out and watch them as they face on Dublin Sells on their turf, seventh grade on September 17th and eighth grade September 18th.

The Grizzel golf team is also improving quite a bit in their skills and is facing on Dublin Sells on September 15th. Ask Mr. Hounshell or a fellow golf player for more information on where it is at. Cheer them on as they battle on Sells.
